Called DC by his grandmother, DC Walker was born on 10/15/1975 to Michelle and Darrell Walker. DC is DC's real name. He is often asked, "What is your real name?" He was nicknamed SKYWALKER by his first grade gym teacher when he saw DC on the balance beam. DC seemed to be walking on air when he was on the balance beam. DC played high school basketball at Jackson High School in Dorinda, Maddocha. When he graduated high school, he chose to go to Conway Jones College in Rysar, Maddocha. Conway was known for neither its basketball program nor its athletic program. DC went to Conway with two other top high school players, Daymon Taylor and Eldringe George of the Scotchburg Orioles. Kalvin Johnson was also attending Conway that year. That year, Conway Jones College went from obscurity to being nationally known. It has often been rumored that there were some impropriety involved in the recruitment of these four players, but it was not so. As Director of Student Athletics at Conway, Carter Johnson, Kalvin Johnson's father, made sure that the basketball program was above reproach. None of the newly recruited players, including his son, received scholarships from the college. Each student was awarded scholarships based on the merit by outside foundations. The students lived in the dorms with the rest of the students and the young men received no preferential treatment. DC got a job during the off season to help pay for his education because he was not able to receive a full scholarship for college. The Conway Jones College basketball program was on the rise. DC was chosen number 20 in the 1996 draft by the Pentel Stallions. He was hurt and embarrassed that he went so low in the draft. His view changed once he became a Stallion. He became an important player in the Stallions system. DC's stats have steadily increased each year. |
